We run a content site and a messaging system. We build things to help you stay informed, using our Content and directing you to third party Content.
We take the private nature of your information very seriously. We respect your privacy and strive to use your private information in reasonable ways that you can understand, predict and control.
We’ll use a few terms in this policy:
This Policy describes our privacy practices concerning information collected in connection with our Services. When you use any of our Services, you are consenting to the collection, transfer, manipulation, storage, disclosure and other uses of your information as described in this Policy.
This Policy is intended to explain the conditions under which Purple Politics collects, uses, and discloses personal and other information in connection with the Site, and your rights in relation to that information. By visiting our Site and/or using the features made available to you on the Site, you are agreeing to the terms of this Policy.
The personal and other information that we collect about you is controlled by Purple Politics Inc., which is headquartered in the United States at 321 W. 54th Street, #106, New York, NY 10019.
Purple Politics collects both “personal information” and “non-personal information” about Site users. “Non-personal information” is information that we cannot directly associate with a specific person without the aid of additional information. By contrast, “personal information,” is information such as a name or email address that we can directly associate with a specific person or entity without additional information. When we combine non-personal information with personal information, we treat all of the combined information as personal information.
Personal information. You can use our Services without submitting any personal information. However, if you use certain features on our Services, you will be required to provide personal information. Such information could include, for example, your name, email address, telephone number, postal address, company, job title, and/or industry. Our online contact form also contains a “comments” field through which you may submit additional personal information. If you choose to use specified Services for which we charge fees, we may require payment card information to process such transactions, and your card issuer may provide us with information about the status of your card, such as if it is suspended or canceled.
We may combine personal information collected through our Services with other information that we or third parties collect about you in other contexts—such as our communications with you via email or phone, or your customer service records. We will treat such combined information as personal information and protect it in accordance with this Policy.
You may, if you would like, create a profile. Your profile can be shared publicly or with other members of groups that you belong to.
If you would like to be a Host, we may require additional personal information from you before allowing you to be a Host. For example, we may require your name, email address, billing address and password, among other information. We may require payment card information to process any transactions, and your card issuer may provide us with information about the status of your card, such as if it is suspended or canceled.
Web log data. When you use our Services, we automatically receive and record certain information from your computer (or other device) and your browser. This may include such data as your IP address and domain name, the pages you visit on our Site, the date and time of your visit, the files that you download, the URLs from the websites you visit before and after navigating to the Site, your software and hardware attributes (including device IDs), your general geographic location (e.g., your city, state, or metropolitan region), and certain cookie information (see below). To obtain such information, we may use web logs or applications that recognize your computer and gather information about its online activity. We do not link this automatically collected data to personal information.
We use both session ID and persistent cookies. A session ID cookie expires when you close your browser. We use session ID cookies to make it easier for you to navigate our Services and to manage your browser and mobile sessions. A persistent cookie remains on your hard drive for an extended period of time, and it can be used to store your password, or enhance your experience on our Services. You can remove persistent cookies by following the directions in your browser’s help file.
Web beacons. Our Services or the emails that you receive from us may use an application known as a “web beacon” (also known as a “clear gif” or “web bug”). A web beacon is an electronic file that usually consists of a single-pixel image, about the size of the period at the end of this sentence. It can be embedded in a web page or in an email to transmit information, which could include personal information. For example, it allows an email sender to determine whether a user has opened a particular email.
Third party online tracking. We also may partner with certain third parties, such as Google Analytics, Twilio, Mixpanel, Heroku, Digital Ocean, Compose.io, Papertrail, Sentry, Stripe and New Relic to collect, analyze, and use some of the personal and non-personal information described in this section. For example, we may allow third parties to set cookies or use web beacons on our Services or in email communications from us. This information may be used for a variety of purposes, including for targeted advertising, as discussed below (see the section entitled “How we share personal and non-personal information with third parties”).
Mobile Use. If you use our Services on a mobile device, we may collect information from your device, including device ID, your mobile carrier and your location. We may store and use that information for security purposes, to understand whether you attended an event and to provide you with notice of events in your area that you may be interested in. We will not share your location information with third parties other than our service providers.
You may opt-in to receive text messages from us regarding an event. If you opt-in, you must provide us with your telephone number, which we will store and use to send reminders to you. You may opt-out at any time by replying “STOP” to one of the text messages received.
If you use our Services on a mobile device, your mobile carrier or other access provider may view data on your device.
Surveys, Contests or Promotions. We may provide you the opportunity to participate in surveys, contests or promotions on our Services. If you participate, we will request certain personal information from you. The requested information typically includes contact information (such as name and shipping address) and demographic information.
We use this information to notify contest winners and award prizes, to monitor website traffic, or to personalize our Services (in the case of anonymous information collected in surveys).
Referrals and Groups. If you choose to use our referral service to tell a friend about our Services, we will ask you for your friend’s name and email address. We will automatically send your friend a one-time email inviting your friend to visit our Services. If you decide to create a group and some of the members of your group are not users of our Services, we will ask you for the potential members’ names and email addresses. As with our referral services, we will send potential members a one-time email inviting them to join our Services. In either case, we store your friend’s or potential members’ name and email address for the sole purpose of sending this one-time email. Your friend or potential member may contact us at email@example.com to request that we remove this information from our database. If your friend or potential member has previously opted out of messages from us, you will have to contact your friend or potential member not using our services.
Forums and Chat Rooms. If you post in any forum, chat room, group or similar service we provide, or leave feedback for other users, we will collect the information you post. We retain this information to resolve disputes, provide customer support and troubleshoot problems. Any information that you make public in a forum, chat room or similar service, including personal information, may be available to the public or may be made available to the public by our other users. If you join a group, your Host may have access to certain of your personal information, including your first name and a unique identifier.
User Generated Content. If you provide us with any user generated content, we may collect information using data included with that content. For example, we may collect information describing your camera and camera settings. We use this information to improve our Services and provide additional features.
We use the information that we collect for a variety of purposes.
Personal Information. If we have personal information about you, we may use it, for example: to respond to your questions or requests concerning our Services or our partners; to fulfill the terms of any agreement you have with us; to fulfill your requests for our Services or otherwise complete a transaction that you initiate; to send you information about our Services and other topics that are likely to be of interest to you, including newsletters, updates or other communications; to deliver confirmations, account information, notifications, and similar operational communications; to improve your user experience and the quality of our products and services; to comply with legal and/or regulatory requirements; and to manage our business. You may opt-out of promotional emails by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with “opt-out” in the subject line. Promotional emails will also have instructions for opting out of that type of communication. You may not opt-out announcements related to our Services that are non-promotional, which may include letting you know that our Services are temporarily suspended.
Non-Personal Information. We use the non-personal information that we collect for such purposes as: counting and recognizing visitors to the Site; analyzing how visitors use the Site and various Site features; improving the Site and enhancing users’ experiences with the Site; creating new products and services or improving our existing products and services; enabling additional website analytics and research concerning the Site; and managing our business. Purple Politics may link non-personal information gathered using cookies and web beacons with personal information. But in that event, we will treat the combined information as personal information.
We share your personal information and non-personal information with other parties for a variety of purposes, as described below.
Our Services also enable third party tracking mechanisms to collect your non-personal information for use in online behavioral advertising. For example, third parties may use the fact that you visited our Services to target online ads for our Services to you on non-Purple Politics websites. In addition, our third party advertising networks might use information about your use of our Site to help target non-Purple Politics advertisements based on your online behavior in general. For information about behavioral advertising practices, including privacy and confidentiality, visit the Network Advertising Initiative website or the Digital Advertising Alliance website.
The use of online tracking mechanisms by third parties is subject to those third parties’ own privacy policies, and not this Policy. If you prefer to prevent third parties from setting and accessing cookies on your computer, you may set your browser to block cookies. Additionally, you may remove yourself from the targeted advertising of companies within the Network Advertising Initiative by opting out here, or of companies participating in the Digital Advertising Alliance program by opting out here. Although our website currently does not respond to “do not track” browser headers, you can limit tracking through these third party programs by taking the steps discussed above.
We may provide advertising at the end of an event that may be targeted to your interests based on personal information that you have disclosed to us. We will not disclose to third party hosts of events that you may be interested in their event based on your personal information.
Third party service providers and business partners. We also use other third party service providers to help us provide, manage and improve our Services. These service providers may collect and/or use your personal or non-personal information to assist us in achieving the purposes discussed above in the section entitled “How we use the personal and non-personal information that we collect”. For example, we use third parties to help us implement our email communications, text messaging and payment processing. We may third parties to help us process comments using natural language processing. We may use third parties to host the servers that allow us to provide our Services. We also use third parties to help us manage our relationships with the people and companies that use our Services.
We also may share your personal or non-personal information with other third parties when necessary to fulfill your requests for services; to complete a transaction that you initiate; to meet the terms of any agreement that you have with us or our partners; or to manage our business.
Your direct sharing of personal information through third-party websites and services. Our Services may enable you to share directly personal information with websites or online services operated by third parties. For example, our Service may contain links to third party websites that incorporate comment and social media features. Our Service may contain a Facebook “like” button and/or a Twitter “follow” button, among other social media features. If you choose to use these features, you may disclose your personal information not just to those third party websites and services, but also to their users and the public more generally. Because these third party websites and services are not operated by us, we are not responsible for the content or practices of those websites or services. The collection, use, and disclosure of your personal and non-personal information will be subject to the privacy policies of the third party websites or services, and not this Policy.
Legal purposes. We also may use or share your personal or non-personal information with third parties when we believe, in our sole discretion, that doing so is necessary:
Aggregated information. From time to time, Purple Politics may also share anonymized and aggregated information about our users, such as by publishing a report on trends in the usage of our Services.
We may disclose your non-personal and personal information if we merge with another company or sell some or all of our assets relating to the Services, including through bankruptcy.
Purple Politics uses commercially reasonable physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect your personal information against loss or unauthorized access, use, modification, or deletion. However, no security program is foolproof, and thus we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your personal or other information.
If you want to learn more about the personal information that Purple Politics has about you, or you would like to update or change that information, please contact us by email at email@example.com.
The personal and non-personal information that we collect through or in connection with our Services is transferred to and processed in the United States for the purposes described above. We may subcontract the processing of your data to, or otherwise share your data with, affiliates or third parties in the United States or countries other than your country of residence. The data-protection laws in these countries may be different from, and less stringent than, those in your country of residence. By using our Services or by providing any personal or non-personal information to us, you expressly consent to such transfer and processing.

We recommend that persons over 13 but under 18 years of age ask their parents for permission before using the Site or sending any information about themselves to anyone over the Internet.
Technology and the Internet are rapidly changing. We therefore are likely to make changes to our Services in the future and as a consequence will need to revise this Policy to reflect those changes. We will post all such changes on the Site, so you should review this page periodically. If we make a material change to the Policy, you will be provided with appropriate notice. If we maintain your email address, we also may email you a copy of the revised Policy at your most recently provided email address.
